Issuance work permit for foreign citizens

A work permit for foreign citizens is a document that confirms the right to work in Ukraine.

A work permit in Ukraine does not need to be obtained:

• foreign citizens or stateless persons who have a permanent residence permit in Ukraine,

• employees of foreign representative offices in Ukraine,

• in case of participation of foreign citizens or stateless persons in the implementation of an international technical assistance project in Ukraine,

• in other cases provided for by Ukrainian legislation

Conditions for obtaining a work permit

Before obtaining a work permit in Ukraine, a foreign citizen must find an employer and agree on employment. This stage cannot be skipped, as the documents are drawn up on behalf of the company. An employer does not have the right to require that a foreign job seeker already have a valid work permit.

A work permit for foreigners is issued to those who are employed by a legal entity or a private entrepreneur. The document is strictly tied to the employing company and to a specific subject of the country. The employer must first issue a special document-permission to work for a foreigner in the State Employment Service. If the employer does not issue such a document, the state has the right to fine the enterprise in the amount of 20 minimum wages
